If you’re new to working from home, all that freedom can really have an impact on your focus and motivation. It’s easy to create excuses and reasons why you can push something off til later. Unfortunately, when we push things off til later we create our own stress. To do lists can pile up quick and with it stress and anxiety.
If you’re not used to being a self starter this is your opportunity to develop that skill.
If you’re finding nothing but distractions when working from home, it’s time to challenge yourself.
If you’re working from home for the first time and are feeling your focus and motivation slipping, I have three tips for you to try:
1. Create a designated work area with your ideal work conditions, set the mood: your favorite music to work to playing, a drink nearby, maybe your favorite candle burning or essential oil diffusing and everything you need to work effectively close by.
2. When working from home time management can be a real issue. Set some clear boundaries for yourself as far as when you start working for the day and when you end. Be clear with yourself about when you have the most motivation for your work and make sure your boundaries flow with that.
3. Eating foods that boost your brain power and energy will help keep you from getting distracted by hunting down snacks in your cabinets. Have some fruit or nuts nearby as well as plenty of water. Dehydration can lead to loss of focus and difficulty decision making.
